I would think that acid attacks were a sordid legacy of countries such as India and Pakistan. Even so, as India is gripped with the sad tale of Sonali Mukherjee who is still seeking justice for an acid attack on her, 9 years ago that left her blind, deaf and disfigured, and three perpetrators free,  it’s horrifying to see that such crimes are committed in Guyana as well.

The case of Gaumattie Singh, who was attacked in 2008 by an unknown assailant and Joann Lynch who is seeking justice for an attack on her six years ago, these are only examples of how women get victimised and how easy it is for perpetrators to inflict violence on women in yet more horrendous ways.
