Although known as the Planter’s Chair or the Plantation Chair elsewhere, it is known as the Berbice Chair in Guyana.

I would love one for Christmas. It is a beautiful chair although the covers in the picture don’t do it justice. The back has a plain weave and that’s what looks best on it.

Years ago, plantation owners had these in their houses, probably perched themselves on it, on a huge verandah and counted their slaves.

Although now, the chairs could be put to better use. They could be positioned on the verandah and you could sit in them all day long and count the screeching kiskadees.

You could have a ‘big year’ without so much as moving a muscle.
