This is the name for Basil in Guyana.People here use Basil to marinate fish.

Cynthia Nelson does a great job of explaining the various uses in Carribean cuisine, where it features in Cook-up rice as well as Black pudding.

Liz told me about this and I fell of my chair laughing, err not literally. But what she didn’t tell me was how the name came about, because I believe, nobody really knows.
