Lovely day, time to drive across the longest pontoon bridge in Guyana.
We crossed over, and then reached a fork in the road. Decided to venture left, at first. We passed Schoonord, La Grange and Nismes in quick succession, places punctuated by churches, sugarcane fields (Demerara sugar, El Dorado rum), colourful gardens and temples.
On the way back decided to continue along the road to Goed Fortuin, Versailles, Vreed en Hoop. Saw kite sellers selling their wares for upcoming Easter monday.
Houses are quaint, gaily painted, with pretty and colourful gardens. People of African and Indian origin abound.
It’s a pleasant drive on the west bank of the Demerara.
Loads of pictures tomorrow.
